Dear Aimery Keith Lewis #9
Back Home in Antigua, Looking Forward to the Future.
Hey Aims, love you lots. Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! I have only spent the 4th of July in the United States a handful of times, but each time has been pretty spectacular, regardless of which part of the country I have been in. In Canada, we have “Canada Day” on July 1st, which is similar (still supporting a country’s independence), but quite a bit different (it’s difficult to find a country as patriotic as the United States). This past week, for Canada Day, we had a pool party at Nana’s house, and a lot of your uncles came over. Can you believe you have an uncle who is the same age as you?! You and Brian are only a few months apart in age! I think you may have met him at your 3rd birthday party (I am not sure where all my old photos are, I will check my old Google account one of these days).
This past week, we also attended an Antigua & Barbuda Association of Toronto event! It was quite random, in my opinion, to have an event celebrating Antiguan culture hosted on Canada Day. I enjoyed it, though. I am not very patriotic when it comes to Canada, so it was nice to go out and wear red, and match with everyone for another reason than Canadian pride. The event consisted mostly of various food tents located in the corner of the park. People were sitting in lawn chairs around the tents (food, merch, and otherwise), music filled the air, children were playing and laughing, and it was a beautiful afternoon. I got some saltfish fritters, and Mommy (Nana) got ducana and saltfish. I wish I’d taken more pictures so I’d have more yummy food to show you, but we will just have to attend another of their events someday!
We ended the week with some family golfing. Pierre, Nana’s husband, LOVES golf. He goes a few times a week, as long as there is no snow on the ground (and he would probably still play, but the courses actually close!). Nana tries to go with him pretty often as well, and I try and get out with them at least once or twice a year. I feel like such a pro now, I have my own clubs (In Canada and Antigua), I have gloves, attire, and all the fixings needed to get a game in. I have yet to actually sign myself up, but it’s a possibility! I am also not that great at golf, buttt some practice probably couldn’t hurt.
It was such a long course! I think we were out there for almost 5 hours. I also only lost about a dozen balls (although I have a general rule to only lose one ball per hole). It was a beautiful day spent with beautiful people. I am sure it’ll be a while before I go golfing again, but it was fun.
Now this upcoming week, I will be busy with my STCW training course. It is my first time taking a course with this new sailing school, so I am a little bit nervous, but mostly excited. It feels great to be back on track with my sailing goals. By the end of the year, hopefully, I will be getting paid at an actual JOB to train myself. For now, I am looking to hopefully get an internship at Second Star Sailing School. Looking forward to sharing all about how STCW goes this week though!
Love you Buh Buh,
Dada
