Dear Aimery Keith Lewis #16
Your Birthday is my favorite holiday!
What a fun week. Hikes, yummy fruits, birthday celebrations… I have no complaints! I pray you had a wonderful birthday! I spent the 19th celebrating with some soursop juice, a saltfish meal, and some walnut cake and rum & raisin ice cream at Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant. It was a delicious lunch, and they provided an abundance of food! I had to take some back and have it for dinner.

I've also been on some great hikes this week! I went on one for your birthday and almost got stuck down a steep hill! Haha, I was able to climb back up after going only about 10 feet down, but I grabbed onto some small shrubs that were growing in the dirt that the goats had left alone! The views were amazing, though, and it was my first time on that hike. I love firsts, so it was a great time.

I have had a harder time finding mangoes this late into the season. This was the week of guineps, dragonfruit, and soursop! I’m actually about to go out after this and look for some more soursop, and I will get some guineps along the way for a snack! It is such a blessing to be able to get so many free, delicious fruits in the “wild” out here. I am excited to hopefully be able to add to the abundance that I feel here. God’s willing!

I have also been starting to notice the flowers around the island a lot more recently. They are slowly becoming my muse. I have been picking a lot of them and trying to dry them out. We will see how that goes, but here are some of the pretty ones I remembered to take pictures of this week.

I also got back into sailing racing with the AYC! I was on a new boat this week, Lady B, and we won both of our races! I mainly helped with the starboard side winch and hiking. It was a lot of fun. I really enjoy the people that I am meeting during sailing. After sailing, it has become a tradition to get some fried chicken with a friend I sail with (I say that I am vegetarian-ish, haha). We tried eating at the beach for the sunset this week, but the mosquitoes were deadly! We only stayed out for a few minutes, but it was really nice to have a few bites by the water.

I also went on a hike this morning! We left at around 6:30 am, which is definitely early for me to hike, but it was very enjoyable. It was another new hike. We started at Hermitage Bay and hiked up to Sleeping Indian and around back to Hermitage. There were a lot of pretty views along the way.

It was an enjoyable week overall. I have really been enjoying taking some time each week to reflect on the week and share the highlights with you, Aimery. I hope that you are able to find these letters one day, and that they bring you some joy. No matter how much I am up to, I always feel like I am missing out because you are not with me for it, but by being able to share these letters with you, I am more motivated to do more and take more pictures. So, thank you for being the muse that inspires me most in my life; every breath I take is for you.
